⭐ Create a Goal

Create a Goal

Goals in Octapp serve as broad destinations on your journey of personal growth. Think of them as horizons you're moving toward rather than checkboxes to tick off. Whether you're creating your own goal or working on one assigned by your counselor, Octapp provides a flexible space for tracking your progress and sharing your journey.

Understanding Goals in Octapp

A goal represents a direction you want to move in or a positive change you want to make. Unlike traditional task management systems that focus on rigid deadlines and strict metrics, Octapp goals embrace the reality that personal growth is often nonlinear and unique to each person.

For example, a goal might be:

  • "Improve my study habits"
  • "Develop better stress management techniques"
  • "Build stronger relationships with my family"

Creating Your Own Goal

  1. From your dashboard, tap the "+" button in the goals section
  2. Enter a name that captures what you want to achieve
  3. Add a description that explains:
    • Why this goal matters to you
    • What success might look like
    • Any initial thoughts on how you might approach it

Working with Assigned Goals

When your counselor assigns you a goal, you'll see it appear in your goals list. Remember:

  • You can always add your own action steps to counselor-assigned goals
  • Feel free to share your thoughts and suggestions through comments
  • Your perspective on how to achieve the goal is valuable and encouraged

Collaborative Goal Achievement

Octapp's goal system is built on the idea that growth works best as a collaborative journey:

  • For Youth: You have the freedom to approach assigned goals in ways that work best for you. You can:

    • Suggest specific action steps
    • Share your progress and challenges
    • Contribute your own ideas about achieving the goal
  • For Counselors: You can:

    • Create and assign goals
    • View and approve action steps
    • Provide guidance and support throughout the process

Next Steps

Once you've created or received a goal, you can:

  • Break it down into specific Action Steps
  • Track your progress through Self-Evaluations
  • Engage in ongoing dialogue with your counselor through comments

Remember, there's no single "right way" to approach a goal. The most important thing is maintaining open communication and finding approaches that work for you.
